Yellow Trend 2014

Now here’s a trend to blow away those January blues – bright, beautiful yellow! The yellow trend will hit hard come the spring, so here’s a sneak peek, and a look at a few things that you can get your hands on now.

Yellow is a difficult colour to wear. It caused a bust-up between me and a former editor. He just didn’t get my clashing of yellow with other bold colours on a Carrie Bradshaw inspired shoot in New York for the paper I worked for. What did he know?!

Sunny yellow spells optimism for me though, and anyone can wear it, just make sure you choose the right tone, and don’t wear it head to toe. The human banana was never a good look!

If you don’t want to embrace the brightest of yellow, then try more mustard shades. Trousers may be difficult, but a sweater, or a bag is a good place to start. Yellow bags were all over the catwalks of New York last year for the Spring 2014 shows, namely Opening Ceremony, Kate Spade and Karen Walker. Debenhams will have more than a few yellow bags in store soon.

Vera Wang, Christian Siriano, Tadashi Shoji and Derek Lam all showed the yellow trend at New York Fashion Week last year. These amazing colour block Priviledged shoes are available at Schuh this month – buy them now and wear them with pride come Spring. Mix up your yellow with prints and florals. If you just want to add a pop of the yellow trend to your wardrobe, a pair of gloves is better than nothing! How about a little nod to the Mexican trend that will be huge this summer, with a little set of bracelets with yellow at the heart. And if you’re really on trend with the yelllow trend, it will be neon – set to be big again this summer.
