Wedding outfits. The very thought can strike fear into the heart of even the most hardened and stylish of fashionistas. Weddings are a minefield of fashion faux pas. What to wear. How to wear it. What will suit the wedding? What will not?
See? Planning wedding outfits is not fun! But, it can be! We’ve created ten outfit suggestions here to give you some ideas, and get you over the fear of wedding outfits.
Let’s start with something very ‘wedding’ – a classic matching two-piece with pastel accessories. This screams wedding to us, but it is very, very, safe. If your wedding is formal, and you fear wearing anything that will look too out of place then this is a perfect choice. The lovely dress (£55) and matching jacket (£45) are from BHS. Team them with statement heels from New Look (£29.99), a simple fascinator (£19.99, New Look) and a cute little beaded clutch (£30, Floozie by FrostFrench @ Debenhams).
Pastels are great for weddings – muted, understated, classy and very much on-trend this season. Go for a Bardot off-the-shoulder neckline like this lovely pale blue dress from New Look (£14.99), or pretty florals l(£14.99, New Look). A dress is a wedding staple, but you could try separates – a Bardot body (£14.99, New Look) and a cute two-tone pencil skirt (£19.99, New Look) are perfect. French Connection’s pink blazer (£130) is a perfect pastel piece. We love New Look’s palest of grey bow heels (£22.99) and their pale blue suedette heels (£27.99). BHS’s beige fascinator works well with pastels (£12), and Principles by Ben De Lisi’s cut out clutch (£35, Debenhams) works with every pastel.
If pastels are not your cup of tea, but brights are, then how about adding a touch of bold yellow to a monochrome look? Red Herring @ Debenhams‘ ruffle top (£28) adds a splash of colour to a black and white outfit. New Look’s striped skirt (£24.99) is a statement piece. Team with with a white blazer (£79, Betty Jackson Black @ Debenhams), a two-tone clutch (£18, Red Herring @ Debenhams), cut out courts (£24.99, H&M), and a simple fascinator (£19.99, New Look).
Yellow and black looks fresh and bold for a spring wedding. H&M’s pale chiffon skirt (£39.99) has a cute polka dot pattern. Team with cut-out shoes in yellow (£24.99), a Bardot neckline body (£14.99, New Look), and a squishy clutch (£45, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson @ Debenhams). Then top it all off with a cute straw boater hat (£15, JOY).
If you really want to be bold, try a big statement print on a dress (£14.99) or a jumpsuit (£??) – both at H&M. Keep the 70s vibe with a mustard kimono style jacket (£24.99, New Look), a fringed clutch (£24.99, H&M), a big old floppy straw hat (£18, JOY) and a fab pair of suede platforms (£24.99, H&M).
Keep things super chic with this, the most stylish of wedding outfits – simple shapes, muted tones, all with a bit of a quirk. French Connection’s palm print apron style dress (£125) is super-chic. Team with a simple black jacket (£24.99, H&M), super black platforms (£39.99, New Look), a two-tone cluch in muted shades (£35, J by Jasper Conran @ Debenhams), and this fabulously fun cloche straw hat (£14.99, H&M).
Navy is a classic shade, and can look fantastic at a wedding. A maxi dress (£39.99, H&M) is great, or maybe try a jumpsuit (£45, BHS) for something a bit different? Add a gorgeous mirrored applique crop jacket (£180, French Connection), whcih will work well with both looks. Accessorize with a simple fascinator (£12. BHS), a pretty sequinned clutch (£22.99, New Look) with hints of pale blue and silver. Pick out the accents in the bag with Schuh’s Hush Puppies sandals (£60).
Bright yellows and oranges, and floral prints are fab for weddings. Bring some boldness to the wedding outfits at your do with a bright floral yellow dress (£24.99, H&M), or a bold orange dress (£35, BHS). Add bright orange heels to either outfit – courts (£19.99) or sandals (£17.99), both New Look. Add a white floppy hat (£7.99, H&M) and a sequin clutch for a bit of sparkle (£24.99, New Look).
If you can get away with it – and the weather’s on your side – try a playsuit (£19.99, New Look) in a bright shade, and colour block with those accessories. Orange looks great with pink – try this fab fascinator from Claire’s (£30). Add a bold pair of yellow sandals (£24.99, H&M),and a bright pom-pom detail oversized clutch (£22.99, New Look).
Finally, go fro floral on black and mix it up a bit, accessorizing with metallic pieces. Try on-trend dungarees – this floral pair are from New Look (£24.99), or an equally on-trend Bardot neckline dress (£24.99, New Look). Add this No1 Jenny Packham gold clutch (£45, Debenhams), and silver sandals (£27.99, New Look) to mix up your metallics. Go for more flower fun with a floral crown from Claire’s (£12), and top it all with a little black jacket (£59, Star by Julien Macdonald @ Debenhams).
So there you have it. Wedding outfits done well, and easily. Which is your favourite?
