This year’s Tour De France started in Yorkshire, and was all over my TV at the weekend. It’s a great sporting event, but I’m not that fussed about watching a load of cyclists, er, well, cycling. However, it did get me thinking about Tour De France fashion.
Tour De France fashion I hear you cry? Have I gone mad? Well, no, not really. I’m not talking about cycling shorts and helmets, silly, I’m talking about Tour De France fashion based on the jerseys the cyclists earn over the course of the race!
The overall leader gets the yellow jersey, the ‘King of the Mountains’ – the best climber, gets a fab red and white polka dot jersey, and the fastest through stages gets the green jersey.
So, pick your jersey and get involved in some Tour De France fashion!
Green is a great colour for everyone really – it works well with tans, pale skins, redheads, blondes and brunettes – and those with pink, blue and similar hair of course! Bold greens make much more of a statement than pale – how fantastic is this shimmery H&M coat – perfect for the transitional season from summer to autumn.
Clockwise, from top left: Tankini top, £10.50, matching bottoms, £8.50, BHS, green shimmery coat, £69.99, H&M, green crinkle midi skirt, £12 (was £28), Dorothy Perkins @ BHS, shorts, £5.99, H&M, green shoes, £55, Schuh, tube dress, £6.99, H&M
Polka dots are a perennial favourite of fashion. The polka dot jersey in the Tour De France fashion is actually white with red dots. But reverse that and you have one of the best polka-dot prints around. Red and white polka dots are modern and retro at the same time, Fresh, fun and guaranteed to brighten up your day! They look particularly brilliant on retro-style swimwear like these swimsuits from Kelly Brook at New Look, and Gorgeous at Debenhams.
