Super Skirts – weekly wishlist

Skirts are great. Long, short, midi. We love them all. It’s time to bare those legs in a mini, or swish around in a maxi, or just take the middle ground in an on-trend midi. Super skirts are here to stay, and they’re on our weekly wishlist this week.

What super skirts do you love the best? Perhaps a bright, bold patterned maxi skirt to makea bold statement with? We love this orange and black and white number from BHS (£30) with a fabulous leaf pattern.

Staying with maxis for now, super skirts don’t come much more super than French Connection’s cotton white embrioidered lace veritable feast of a skirt! (£85).

Midi skirts are marvellous. Full-skirted they evoke the 1950s, straight, well they’re straight out of the 90s. New Look’s peachy tie waist midi (£15.99) is a true 90s homage.

Whilst this gorgeous striped number from Valley of the Dolls at JOY (£45) is as ladylike as super skirts get!

New Look’s grey, black and white pleated midi (£26.99) is a statement of a skirt – keep the restof your outfit simple with this colour-blocking marvel.

And even bolder is New Look’s black and white striped full-skirted midi (£24.99). Marvellous doesn’t do it justice.

GAP’s nude linen drawstring waist skirt (£29.95) has ‘holiday essential’ written all over it. White Stuff’s bold printed A-line skirt  (£47.50)is classic, with a twist, and one for print fans.

BHS’s bright acid orange simple A-line mini (£20) is a great way to brighten up a work outfit, and French Connection’s dip dye denim mini (£65) is perfect for lazy summer days.

What’s at the top of your super skirts list?

Statement skirts to make a statement!

It seems like we’ve been wearing dresses for years, but FINALLY, skirts are making a comeback. Statement skirts are all over the shops this spring, so it’s time to invest, and make, well, a style statement!

This is the season of the separates. Team your statement skirts with simple tops, boxy jackets, or clash prints, or match them up for extra fashion points.

There are two main styles of skirt to go for, mainly in the midi length, which sits below the knee –  pencil or full.

Pencil skirts are here to stay for the spring and are perfect for the office, the party or lunch with the girls. Choose a bold pencil skirt and wear with a loose sweat for a casual look, or a fitted top for the evening.

The full midi skirt appeared last year and this look is here to stay. It’s one of the most flattering statement skirts. Wear it bold, or in plain black with a white Tee, a neck scarf and ballet pumps for a classic retro look. It’s an elegant shape, and looks great with heels, wedges, ankle boots, or pumps.

If you really want to be on trend this spring, then try the ‘flippy hem’ skirt. Here are two from H&M, in midi and mini lengths. A classic 1940s shape, popular in the 1990s, it’s back again. This evens out a silhouette, and looks great with a simple Tee or shirt, and a fitted jacket.

A leather skirt makes a big statement. French Connection‘s asymmetric hem detail leather skirt comes in a few colours (left, above, £160), but if your budget can’t stretch, then they also have a PU pleated version for £65  that will make an impact too.
