It’s Boxing Day! That means it’s time to hit the sales in earnest. The post-Christmas sales (formerly January sales, but they all seem to begin in December now) are brilliant – you can get lots of bargains. But you will need our Ten Top Tips for Stress-Free Sale Shopping before you even think about hitting the high street or mall.
1. MAKE A LIST
It sounds simple, but so many of us just head out into the madness of the sales, without a clue as to what we really want. You will get on a lot better if you write down the items you are looking for. The key to stress-free sale shopping is being prepared.
2. PRIORITISE YOUR LIST
Once you have written your list, prioritise it. Think about what you really need. Stress-free sale shopping does not happen when you start running around, grabbing at everything you see. You’ll end up spending more than you wanted to, and probably won’t come how with the things you really wanted.
3. GO EARLY
If you are going to do this, do it properly. The best time for stress-free sale shopping is early morning. Everyone has the same idea, but many don’t make it. Don’t be one of them. Set your alarm, get down there early, and feel very smug when you get the best bargains of all!
4. WEAR COMFY SHOES
It’s a bit of a no-brainer this one, isn’t it? Don’t wear those new boots you got for Christmas. Wear something you know is comfy. This is about buying, not looking super stylish. Sore feet will seriously curtail your sales fun!
5. TO TRY ON OR NOT?
Some people like to try things on, but if the queue is huge, don’t bother. The less time standing in the queue, the more time you have to browse the rails. If you really must try things on, make sure you wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of to maximise shopping time.
6. CHECK ALL THE RAILS
Whether you are trying something on or not, have a look at the rails at the changing room if you can. That size you are looking for might just be there!
7. ALONE OR WITH A FRIEND – YOU DECIDE
Some of us like solo sale shopping. We can go at a pace we like, to the shops we want to go to, and we don’t have to wait about for anyone else. However, sometimes it is nice to have a friend to ask an opinion of – or to help carry our purchases home!
8. PICK A MEETING PLACE
If you are taking a friend, make sure you pick a meeting place, if you get lost. The last thing you want to be doing is spending precious sales shopping time hunting your friend down. Mobile phone signals can be dodgy in many shops, so don’t rely on your phone!
9. TAKE A SMALL BAG
The last thing you need is a big handbag, knocking into things, and weighing you down. Take the minimum you need, in a small cross-body bag, which won’t get in your way when you are rummaging the rails.
10. TAKE A SNACK or GRAB A BITE
Don’t forget to eat! If you are seriously shopping, the hours can disappear. Stop for a break if you can, or take a small snack in your bag – a high protein energy bar is a great idea!
So, that’s our Top Ten Tips for Stress-Free Sale Shopping. Most importantly though, have fun! Happy bargain-hunting!
