Ruffles and frills. Think late 1970s/early 1980s for this trend which will be everywhere this coming autumn – trust us. Ruffles are easiest to wear on tops – dressed up with a killer skirt or dressed down with dungarees or denims.
Ruffles can be big and bold (we think that’s the best way to wear them, to be honest), or you can go smaller for a more subtle frilly look.
Let’s start now, with some summer ruffles. We adore this simple, striped top with lovely frills from H&M (£14.99). It’s very 1980s Princess Diana, no? Wear it with a denim mini or your dunagrees for laid back summer style.
Also at H&M, if you’re brave enough, this is the perfect holiday evening top – a big old flouncy strapless top with a big old frill (£7.99). Hot!
Still in holiday mode, we’re getting all ruffly on the beach with this fantastic swimsuit from H&M, a sale bargain, down from £19.99 to £9.99.
French Connection’s white lace bib, frilled trim, white blouse (£95) is another holiday musthave.
H&M’s silk black ruffles shirt (£29.99) is perfect now, and will last you into autumn as well. It’s simple, but effective.
This navy cold shoulder ruffles trim top from JOY (£30) is simple and subtle – wear it with straight trousers and a jacket for a super sharp style.
New Look’s deep green top (£17.99) has a New Romantic 1980s feel to it – we love this colour, just autumnal perfection, but also great for showing off that holiday tan.
So, into winter, and you will be wearing ruffles on your knitwear. At Debenhams, this Nine by Savannah Miller grey sweater (£40) has fab sleeve frills.
And this Star by Julien Macdonald @ Debenhams cream double trim sweater (£38) has a cute roll neck too.
Finally, the khaki trend, and the ruffles trend meet for this fantastic New Look sweater (£24.99) Buy it now!
