The Pink Dress & Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett has created  bit of a storm with her dress choice for last night’s Golden Globe Awards in Hollywood. The Carol actress walked the red carpet in a pale pink fringed, lace gown by Givenchy.

It was quite a departure for the actress, who is known for her simple, classic style. And it has landed her on a few ‘worst dressed’ lists today.

But…what do they know?! The pink dress is the only dress you will need this summer, trust us. Yes, we know pink is a bit of a difficult colour to wear. It’s the ultimate girly shade, the colour women either love or loathe. It divides opinions, and provokes reactions, and it is one half of the Pantone Color of the Year this year, in the form of rose quartz.

Forget fuchsia hues, it’s all about pale pink. The pink dress you need is a pale, rose hue – the classic baby pink.

Cate’s dress may seem a strange choice, but Givenchy are on the mark with this beautiful, unusual, stand-out gown. Fringing is also here to stay, following on from its resurgence last year thanks to the 1970s trend (another that’s sticking around).

So, if you want to get ahead of the game, it’s all about the pink dress. Start looking now, and here’s a few to get you off to a flying start.

If it’s ruffles you want, then French Connection’s baby pink ruffled dress is in the sale (£48, was £160). New Look’s summer collection includes this gorgeous palm print maxi dress (£24.99) in a more peachy-pink, which can be more flattering to some skintones.

H&M’s lace dress is a simple version of the pink dress  to ease you into the trend -and it’s a bargain in the sale (£12, was £19.99).

the pink dress threeFringes and a peachy pink make this H&M dress (£49.99) the pink dress we want for the spring evenings. If a classic prom style is more your thing, there are a few of those coming too. New Look’s has a gorgeous floral waist detail (£24.99), whilst the Debut @ Debenhams number is more of a simple, classic style (£110).

the pink dress twoBHS’s lace rose pink midi dress (£95) is our absolute favourite, even if it is from their bridal collection. It is pink perfection, if a little sugary for some, but we just love it. French Connection’s ombre pink sequinned shift is a sale bargain (£112, was £160), and Oasis @ Debenhams embellished pink shift is classic, and not too girly, agreed? Just a little hint of sparkle (£45).

Rose Quartz Serenity from Pantone for 2016

Every year, Pantone choose a Coloiur of the Year. This year, however, for the first time ever, they’ve chosen TWO colours. Rose Quartz and Serenity are the shades, blending togerher berautifully to give you a rose quartz serenity palette.

Pantone’s reason for choosing this rose quartz serenity blend?

“As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent.

“Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

So, the Pantone Color of the Year is this rose quartz serenity blend, which is, essentially, a palette of baby blue and pastel pink.

We love them, they do feel like calming shades to us, and we can’t wait to start mixing and matching these gorgeous colours come next year.
