In a Pop Art Fashion

We’ve come over all in a pop art fashion this week, thanks to the current Roy Lichtenstein exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh.

Pop Art, a style that appeared in the 1950s, and whose most famous, and well-known exponent is Andy Warhol, challenged fine art, with the use of popular product imagery from the day.

In the 1960s, Lichtenstein created some fantastic pop art, and you can see it at the modern art gallery until later this year. If you look closely at most of his work, you will note that he uses just three primary colours – red, yellow and blue – and  black and white.

So, we go to thinking – how cute would some pop art fashion look?! Red, yellow and blue with a hint of black thrown in is a great colour combination. Want to stand out from the crowd – embrace some pop art fashion!

Bright and bold primary colours make a simple fashion statement when the pieces themselves are simple – think a body suit, a midi skirt, some cute accessories, and shoes. Perfect pop art fashion!

Mix up your three primary colours – if you wear just blue and yellow, you may look like you’re paying homage to IKEA, not Lichtenstein’s colour palette!

It’s quite a colour statement to make – perhaps a coat in one colour, to be taken off, would help ease you into it? Or hide one colour under an LBD in bright bold lingerie!?
