Ruffles and Pleats

It’s all about texture this season, fashion fans. think lots of different textural effects on fabrics – mainly ruffles and pleats.

Ruffles and pleats are actually easy to wear. They add character and and edge to simple garments, and they also hide a multitude of sins, if you want to hide them.

Let’s start with pleats and this floaty, two-tone dress from Dorothy Perkins @ BHS (£45). Floaty, it will look great with heels and a jacket, or flats and a floppy hat.

Pleats perfection

Pleats tend to remind me at times of my Primary school teacher’s skirts. But that’s just me. And they’re certainly not just for woolen skirts in the classroom these days!

The pleats trend this spring/summer is inspired by Issey Miyake who found a whole new way of working with pleats in the late 1980s, and they became synonymous with the Japanese designer.

Pleats add fluidity and movement to any garment. This pleats trend is all about small pleats – a killer to iron, but stunning in a skirt! The razor-sharp lines of the pleats trend give a clean and wearable look, on a skirt, a dress, or a top.

Pleats look great on a pastel maxi dress, perfect for a prom! Bold colours mix well with pleats, and how about some pleats on your bag?!
