the pink coat – three ways

In this little blog series, we’re going to take an Autumn Winter trend, and show you how to wear it  – three ways. This week, the pink coat.

Three Ways with pink coat

Being on trend is all very well, but getting more wear out of your on-trend piece is better. Its all about being clever with the pieces you buy, and seeing how they can be adapted for various occasions. This week, the pink coat  – for walking the dog, date night and a winter christening.

This is how we would style this lovely dusky pink coat from Red Herring @ Debenhams (£70) for those three occasions. If you buy one pink item this Autumn winter make it a pink coat. The pink coat is THE winter coat to be seen in this year. Debenhams have quite a few on offer; this one, one from John Rocha, one from Betty Jackson Black and a bold pink one from Jonathan Saunders Edition, if you prefer something brighter.

1. A Winter Christening

A Winter christening doesn’t mean you have to wrap up in dark colours, not when the pink coat is an option this season! Team it with a lovely floral dress, pink accessories in different shades of pink, and brighten up the baby’s big day!

AW13 Top Ten Essentials

A new season is upon us, weather-wise and fashion-wise. We’ve already had a look at key trends for this season on the blog, but here are our AW13 Top Ten Essentials. The things you can’t be without this new fashion season.

AW13 top 10 essentials - leather jacket

This leather jacket – or leather-look jacket – from H&M is a winner because it also covers another trend – animal print, with its leopard print front. Biker jackets are big this season, and are great for autumn, before we need to fully embrace a winter coat. Which brings me nicely to …

AW13 Top Ten essentials - pink coat

Pink if possible – there are a few of them around right now. This one is from Red Herring @ Debenhams (in store later this autumn), and is absolutely beautiful. This vintage-style duster coat shape is perfect for this season, and the paler the pink the better. It’s right up there on your AW13 Top Ten Essentials list – well, it should be!

AW13 top 10 essentials - boots

Always a winter essential, this season there is a big trend for Victorian style buckles, laced up ankle boots. This pair from Schuh (£75) are stunning, and in a very wearable, workable, tan colour. Work brilliantly with jeans, and also with another AW13 Top Ten Essentials  piece this season…

Top 10 AW13 essentials - full midi skirt

This is the new skirt shape for this season – full, midi length with a retro 1950s nod to it – but not as full as underskirted prom skirts. Got that? Okay. This one, from Warehouse @ Debenhams (£48), ticks a few boxes – pleated, full, midi, and in a leather look fabric.Perfect.

AW13 Top ten essentials pencil skirt

The love affair with the pencil skirt is not over – there are still LOADS of them on the high street and in the malls, and they are stylish, sexy and comfortable. New Look’s leather look quilted effort (£19.99) is sublime – tapping into more than one trend at a time is the best way to do fashion. Full stop.

Top 10 AW13 essentials - party dress

The onset of autumn means winter is not far behind, and that means Christmas and PARTY SEASON! Yay. So, you need a dress. This one from the new Diamond by Julien Macdonald range at Debenhams (£65) is great on so many counts. It’s not too bling, but has a bit of sparkle, it’s simple, making it great for all occasions, and it has a bit of pink in it. Oh, and it’s black. You can’t beat an LBD.

TopTen AW13 essentials tartan

You must have a bit of tartan going on this season. Fashion says so. If a dress/skirt/trousers has you running for the hills, visions of shortbread tins in your mind, then how about some tartan accessories. A good sturdy bag, or a simple pair of pumps gives a nod to this ‘difficult if you’re Scottish’ trend, in an ever-so stylish way. Bag (£29) and pumps (£22) from Red Herring @ Debenhams

AW13 top ten essentials - scarf

It’s not really just on the AW13 Top Ten Essentials list – a big old scarf should be an all year round essential. It is in Edinburgh, is it not, with that wind? Keep with your big cotton/viscose pashmina style as long as you can before swapping to a knitted number. For autumn’s early days, this bold printed number from Gap (£19.95) will see you through.

AW13 top 10 essentials jumper

Pretty obvious this one, isn’t it? But by knitwear this season, we mean jumpers. Not too big and slouchy, patterned or plain – whatever your fancy, just make sure it is a cosy one. We think this striped sweater from Red Herring @ Debenhams is perfect autumn wear, with a full midi-skirt, or jeans.

AW13 top Ten Essentials -tailoringTailoring, and that androgynous look is big this season, so invest in a well cut jacket and trousers, and you’re there. Keep it black and simple if you like. There’s something supremely stylish and elegant about this blazer (£135) and cigarette pants (£75) suit from French Connection, don’t you think?
