Tropical Trend

Fashion is having a bit of a tropical trend moment this season. We’re harking back to the 1980s, with Hawaiian print shirts, hibiscus prints, and a few pineapples, palm trees and flamingos added in for good measure.

So, how do you wear the tropical trend. You don’t want to look like you’re at a themed party, but you can play about with the tropical trend, and be as bold – or not – as you dare.

Let’s start with pineapples – essential in the tropical trend, and such a fun print. Go for full on pineapple bling with H&M’s sequinned T-shirts, either with a big pineapple, or a lot of little ones (£12.99 each), or New Look’s fabulous sequinned pineapple shaped novelty handbag (£19.99). Claire’s pendant necklace (£5) features a pineapple and tropical hibiscus flower, and H&M’s cute keyring (£2.99) is a subtle nod to this trend. Louche @ JOY’s beautiful graphic pineapple print dress (£45) is perfection, agreed?

Tropical flowers obviously have a place in any tropical trend – think hibiscus and, er, other tropical flowers we can’t think of right now!

Go full on with Claire’s tropical floral crown (£10), or go for muted pastels in New Look’s cute cold-shoulder playsuit (£19.99). New Look’s black floral playsuit (£12.99) is anything but muted though. Louche @ JOY’s cami top (£14, was £29) is a simple way to get tropical without the fuss. Hibiscus print pretties up your Vans (£55, Schuh), and when it comes to skimpy swimwear, H&M’s cute cut-out swimsuit (£29.99) is floral-fabulous, as is this Butterfly by Matthew Williamson bikini (top £20, bottoms £18), at Debenhams.

Flamingos. Who doesn’t love a flamingo print? Team them with Palm trees and there’s two more of your key tropical trend elements right there. Oh, and throw is other tropical birds, too why not, like these fabulous polly parrot sandals from Miss L-Fire @ Schuh (£65).

BHS’s flamingo and floral beach towel is beautifully bright (£10). Have a bit of silly fun with Claire’s tropical trend glasses (£4, were £8). Red Herring’s monochroe neon-trimmed palm tree bikini (top £16, bottoms £12) ticks boxes at Debenhams. And New Look’s neon Flamingo body (£12.99) is super retro cute. tropical trend flamingo In this year’s tropical trend, it seems be leaf print that’s got it all going on. Beautiful leaves in muted tones, mixed patterns, and bold prints. We love the H&M+ swimsuit in black and white (£29.99), and BHS’s red and white Tee (£9.50). New Look’s pastel playsuit (£12.99) is on our wishlist, as is BHS’s green leaf swimsuit (£28). French Connection’s maxi dress has an abstract tropical leaf print (£160), and New Look’s pretty bikini (top, £14.99, bottoms, £7.99) is just that – super pretty.

BHS’s blue and white leaf print linen dress (£32) is fresh for summer, and new Look’s orange Bardot top (£12.99) is bang on-trend for this season. French Connection’s leaf print trousers (£85) are a statement piece. JOY’s palm dress is chic (£39), and we LOVE BHS’s palm print rain mac (£25) so even when it’s raining this summer you can join in the tropical trend!

Bake Off Style!

It’s all that seems to be on anyone’s lips right now – the return of the  Great British Bake Off to our TV screens. Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, and Mel and Sue are back tonight on BBC1 at 8pm, with more tempting treats for us to try to emulate.

Or not. We’ve decided to forgo the actual cake, and go for some bake off style instead! Every bit as satisfying, (well, okay, sort of), but a lot less calorific.

So, that’s our weekly wishlist this week – a bit of bake off style for you, inspired by everyone’s favourite TV show!  Cupcakes are yummy, right? And so are these cute cupcake false nails (£5, Claire’s Accessories). Just make sure they don’t come off in your cake mix!

Cupcakes look cute on your ears too – cute bake off style. Try diamante studded studs at Claire’s (£6) or little loveheart topped cupcake studs at JOY (£6). Cherries are baking essentials, so pay homage to them with Claire’s Accessories’ cute cherry necklace (£5).

Love a bit of lemon drizzle cake? Or a lemon meringue pie? Mmmm, us too. That’s why lovely lemon features in our bake off style in the shape, literally, of New Look’s lemon slice clutch (£6.50, was £12.99).

Bake off style weekly wishlistApples are essential bake off ingredients – and for true bake off style grab JOY’s apple print top (£14, was £28) or H&M’s cute apple logo T-shirt (£7.99). Maybe pineapple upside down cake is more your bake off style? Create one wearing this fab sequinned pineapple T from H&M (£12.99).

BHS’s cute cupcake shorts (£8) are perfect lounging gear for when watching the bake off. H&M’s ‘Fresh’ logo t-shirt (£7.99) tells us exactly how we like our bake off style – and our baked goods! Nothing worse than stale cake or bread!

Finally if you want to join in the baking fun, then you’ll need an apron, or a pinny, as my granny liked to call it. JOY’s Victoria sponge recipe style (£12) is perfect. Eat your heart out, Mary Berry!
