Weekend Style – Wherever You Go

So, it’s the Edinburgh September holiday weekend this weekend, and Glasgow the next. Are you heading off anywhere? And if so, what’s your weekend style?

Wherever you are headed, we’ve got a weekend style for you.

1. TO THE SUN

Are you heading off to the sun this September weekend? Short break with the girls? Romantic getaway? A few days in the sun is a great tonic at this time of year. But what’s your weekend style for a few days in the sun?

You don’t need a lot for a weekend. Make a maxi dress in black (£24.99,H&M) your weekend evening wear, and you can wear it home as well, cover up the legs when you get off the plane in the freezing UK! A cute playsuit is perfect (£12.99, H&M), you need some stylish sunnies (£18, JOY), and some flip-flops (£26, Havaianas @ Schuh), and a bag that will work for day and night, like GAP’s striped bucket bag (£19.99, was £34.95).

weekend style beach breakH&M still have some cute straw sunhats in store (£9.99), and we reckon stripes are a great bet for a new bikini (top £12.99, bottoms £7.99, H&M). Add a pair of strappy heels for evenings (£49, Faith @ Debenhams) and you’re almost there!

COUNTRY HOTEL

If you’re heading off to a country hotel for a weekend break, then your weekend style might need to be two things: warm and comfortable, with a little bit of Downtown style.

So, make sure you have some jeans for daytime walks, a cover-up or two and something to dress for dinner in. H&M’s gorgeous chevron slouchy 1970s style cover-up (£49.99) is perfect out and in, dressed up, or down. Schuh’s fringe tassel boots (£75) work with trousers or a skirt. Make your skirt this gorgeous full midi from RJR John Rocha @ Debenhams (£45), which will look gogeous with an embellished sweater (£40, RJR John Rocha). And that sweater will work perfetly under a furry gilet (£24.99, New Look) with fab flares (£44.95, GAP) for a country walk.

weekend style country hotelStick some earrings (£7.99, New Look), a clutch (£39, Star by Julien Macdonald, Debenhams), and some court shoes (£19.99, H&M) into a large bag like this lovely check tote from Collection @ Debenhams (£55) and you’re sorted.

BRITISH SEASIDE

Heading for a British seaside break? You probably won’t need any swimwear, but you will need a hat, and gloves, most likely! Mix it up with cord, denim, coats and wraps, in a colour palette of browns and blacks.

Betty Jackson Black @ Debenhams has some fab slouchy 80s style coats like this monochrome one (£75) this autumn/winter, go check them out! Team your coat with skinny cords (£39.95, GAP), fringed boots (£65, Schuh) or gold trainers (£60, Reebok @ Schuh), and a fun sea-themed Tee (£25, Valley of the Dolls @ JOY). Add a retro style patchwork bag (£19.99, New Look), and a cute beret (£14, Red Herring @ Debenhams) and some gloves (£26, RJR John Rocha @ Debenhams) for warmth.

weekend style british seasideMatch a wooden ring (£3.99, New Look) to your bag, and try a blanket wrap-style jacket  in brown tones (£34.99, New Look)  and a denim pinafore (£24.99, New Look) for a 1970s feel to your weekend style.

CITY BREAK

Off on a city break? You;ll need to look super-stylish, and be comfortable too. Choose a colour palette of three shades – we’ve picked black with beige and burgundy for autumnal weekend style. We love New Look’s striped culotte jumpsuit (£22.99), teamed with either chunky black boots (£75, RJR John Rocha @ Debenhams) or tan platforms (£55, Faith), if you dare. These work beautifully in the evening too, with a gorgeous floral printed dress (£60, Star by Julien Macdonald @ Debenhams).

weekend style city breakChoose on-trend cover-ups – a burgundy cape (£24.99, H&M) or a patterned cardi-coat (£45, Principles @ Debenhams). And keep your bag comfortable, roomy and stylish with H&M’s black tote (£14.99), or Floozie by FrostFrench’s rich claret quilted bag (£29, Debenhams). Finally, the obligatory floppy felt hat (£19.99, H&M) – don’t leave home without one this autumn/winter!

What’s your weekend style?

Bank Holiday Fashion!

It’s a Bank Holiday weekend this weekend, and it got me wondering what everyone was up to? And what Bank Holiday fashion they might need. A quick straw poll on my Facebook provided me with some bizarre and very different Bank Holiday activities – sleeping, visiting a Donkey Sanctuary, running the Edinburgh half marathon, a yoga weekend, and attending the Mhor Festival, were just some of my Facebook friend’s answers!

So, I then thought, what might folk do – on a more generic basis  – on a Bank Holiday weekend? Have a picnic in the park, visit the beach, take a mini break in a city, or go clubbing?

Well, here’s our style guide to what to wear if those four are any of the Bank Holiday activities you have planned this weekend! Bank holiday fashion for every occasion – well, four of them anyway!

AT THE BEACH

Okay, so it might be Porty or Yellowcraigs, not Marbella or St Tropez, but if the weather’s good, why not glam it up at the beach?! There’s no excuse for poor beachwear, even in Scotland! Glam it up with an animal print theme – tiger swimsuit and leopard print beach dress – go on!

PICNIC IN THE PARK

Off to the Meadows, Leith Links, or perhaps the Botanics for a picnic, get in a sort of festival-ish vibe with your bank holiday fashion. Denim shorts, a vest, a jacket for when it gets cooler, oh and a hat. You know the style!

BANK HOLIDAY CLUBBING

Who remembers the days of big bank holiday weekenders? Do they still exist? If you’re clubbing this weekend, or just out for a night on the town, the glam it up – it’s a bank holiday! Think summer metallics or bright colourful neons for a bold look!

Bridget Jones wanted to spend every bank holiday on a mini-break with her boyfriend. Essentially, that’s why she wanted a boyfriend. But you can mini-break with whoever you want, surely!? If you’re heading off to a city for a mini-break, here’s a capsule wardrobe for perfect bank holiday fashion.
