Men’s summer style – Weekly Wishlist

Hey guys, it’s summer. Well, nearly. It is in parts of the UK this week. Harumph. But the sun will shine soon, so men’s summer style is on our Weekly wishlist this week.,

Time to get that summer style sorted guys. Shorts? Check? Hat? Check? Sandals? Check. And so on.

Make a bold summer style statement with French Connection’s geometric wavy stripe Tee (£25) that also comes in bright red. H&M’s summer sweater (£24.99) has more subtle stripes, if that’s more your summer style.

You can never go wrong with a denim jacket (£24.99, New Look) when the night gets longer and the temperatures rise, even just a little bit.

Sunglasses are a summer style essential – blue aviators anyone (£24.99, Superdry)? Another accessory you might want to add to your summer wardrobe is a hat. This blue J by Jasper Conran number (£28, Debenhams)  is a perfect summer style addition.

J by Jasper Conran’s pale blue tailored shorts work (£30, Debenhams) perfectly for summer evenings, or even work. But if you still prefer your legs covered, then French Connection’s dark blue fine cotton trousers (£120) are perfect.

You might want to embrace sandals when the summer really kicks in – who doesn’t love a pair of Birkenstocks (£50, Schuh)? Or maybe an espadrille-soled shoe is more for you (£59.95, White Stuff)?

Bold prints are for guys too – a bright tropical print vest (£16, Red Herring @ Debenhams) is perfect for holidays, as is a floral print backpack.

Finally, it all has to go in a suitcase, but how about wearing one as well – on this fab print Tee from White Stuff (£25)?

When the sun does shine on you, you’ll be ready with this weekly wishlist!

Men in short shorts!

Cover your eyes ladies – the men of Scotland are out in force in short shorts! According to recent sales data from Debenhams, men are eschewing longer, Bermuda style shorts, and harking back to the 1980s with shorts that sit on the thighs!

In the heatwave of the last few weeks, sales of shorts that sit near the top of thighs, rather than knees, have shot up by an amazing 156%!

But it’s not just the hot temperatures that is spurring on this trend – celebrities like TOWIE’s Joey Essex and Mark Wright, Cristiano Ronaldo, Danny Dyer, Olly Murs and One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson preferring the thigh-skimming option.

And spotted on recent SS14 men’s catwalks of Versace, Emporio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Gieves & Hawkes, this is one trend that has definitely made the leap to the great British high street, and looks set to continue.

Men’s chino shorts from Debenhams’ Red Herring range were first launched in March and measure 52cm from waist to hem, whilst the majority of other styles come in at 70cms. And these short shorts are flying out the door!

“We have all heard about the emergence of ‘mankles’ – male ankles peeking out from rolled up trousers. Well, this takes it to the next level,” says Ed Watson of Debenhams.

“All over the world, British men are renowned for exposing their white knobbly knees during the summer holidays. For the daring few, wearing short shorts can be a liberating experience, particularly when faced with the recent tropic temperatures. We haven’t seen a demand for short shorts as high as this since Wham sparked the trend in the 1980s – we are currently considering whether or not to go even shorter for next summer!”

If you want to see men in short shorts in the biggest numbers, then you need to head west in Scotland to Glasgow, and south to Newcastle and Cardiff – these three stores have seen the highest demand for the shorts with the highest hems!

There are loads of men’s shorts to choose from at Ocean Terminal – just make sure they’re short shorts!
