1970s skirts – Weekly Wishlist

If you want to nail this 1970s trend, then you need 1970s skirts by the dozen, okay? Yes, flares may be the first thing people think of when the 1970s are mentioned but one outstanding item from that decade is the skirt. Now, 1970s skirts did come in various shapes and styles, but the one you want is the classic A-line midi skirt.

In cord, leather, suede, or cotton, this is the queen of 1970s skirts. So, it’s our weekly wishlist, because we want one them all so much, it hurts.

Now, if midi isn’t your thing, then we will allow the A-line mini skirt. H&M’s berry coloured button front mini (£19.99) is cute as, well, one of it’s buttons. New Look’s checked A-line is a mini (£19.99),as is the cute H by Henry Holland denim mini at Debenhams (£28).

New Look’s denim pocket-front midi (£22.99) screams 1970s skirts to us, agreed? Or, if you want to truly embrace the 1970s vibe, the same style of skirt at New Look in cord (£22.99) – that brilliant 1970s fabric.

New Look have a fantastic range of perfect 1970s skirts – we adore their leather midi with belt (£tbc) and their zip front suedette skirt (£22.99). At JOY we love the preppy style of their Louche plaid pleated midi (£45) – think Ali McGraw in Love Story on this one.

1970s skirtsJOY also have a fab polka dot check print midi (£45). French Connection’s grey jacquard print skirt (£85) will look fantastic with knee high boots, a roll neck sweater, and a fur collar coat for the perfect 1970s vibe.

H&M’s green skirt (£39.99) is a bit floaty to be true 1970s style, but we do love it. And White Stuff’s dotty bobble skirt (£65) is flirty and fun. Finally, BHS (£20, was £25) gets it spot-on with their belted black kick pleat skirt.

Leather Trend – how to do it

This autumn winter sees a bit of a leather trend on the high street  – but don’t be afraid, and don’t despair if you think you can’t afford it – leather-look items are where it’s at.We’re not suggesting you go all out Hell’s Angel with this one – but a piece of leather here and there, or a leather-look fabric, can add an edge to an outfit, or a hint of sophistication.

It all depends on how you wear this latest leather trend. And the leather look fabrics on offer now are excellent, and more breathable than in the past.

We’d say try and keep it black. Black is most definitely back for this season – at last! Mix up your leather with black fabrics in different textures for the most on trend take  on the leather trend.

A biker jacket is a big musthave for this season. Choose from real leather, or PU (polyurethane), and go for a classic style, or something a bit more refined.
