Lace trend

It’s wedding season, so there’s a lot of lovely lace around – but, it’s not just for wedding dresses. The lace trend is big this summer, so embrace it. Just don’t wear white to a wedding, that might be a bit odd.

We love lace, it’s delicate and pretty, and sexy and edgy all at the same time. A lovely lace dress is a classic summer wardrobe musthave.

Lace looks great on tops, dresses, skirts, and even shoes and bomber jackets! Who knew.

Howwever you wear the lace trend this summer, just wear it. Let’s start with classic cream and white lace. Beautiful, just be careful you don’t look too bridal. New Look’s cream lace bomber jacket (£24.99) is, however, a pretty cute addition to your wedding dress for a wee bit of an alternative evening cover up, we think!

We absolutely adore French Connection’s oversize white shirt with bib (£80). It’s so versatile. Wear over a bikini, wear with jeans, wear with shorts, just wear! Culottes are another thing you need to embrace this season, so why not kill two trends with one stone and get them in lace at French Connection (£90).

New Look’s lace mid skirt (£24.99) will look great with a contrasting simple top. H&M’s one-shoulder cream lace top (£9.99) is perfect with denim shorts or a skirt, as is JOY’s Bardot top by Influence (£18)

Lace doesn’t have to be pale and pretty though, it can be bold, bright and fun. Louche @ JOY’s navy lace top (£35) is a lovely lace trend alternative to black. H&M’s green dress is a bold lace statement (£29.99). New Look’s orange crop Bardot style top is perfect in bold orange for hot summer nights (£19.99). H&M’s lace insert playsuit is pretty in a coral/rust shade (£39.99), and New Look’s floral lace dress is bold and bright (£44.99). H&M’s burgundy lace trim shorts are super for late summer evenings (£14.99).

Lovely lace

Lovely lace. Such a pretty fabric, and so versatile. One of our favourite brands in the Limited Edition store at Ocean Terminal is MYB Textiles.

MYB textiles lace oneAyrshire-based textile company, MYB Textiles creates the most beautiful and exquisite  and lovely lace and madras fabrics. Morton, Young and Borland Ltd was founded in 1900, one of the largest mills in the area creating beautiful lace and madras. Today MYB Textiles is the only producer in the world manufacturing patterned lace with the original Nottingham Lace Looms, which are over 90 years old.

Tradition and innovation are embraced by the company, and today many of those looms have been modified and are networked to the computers in the design office. MYB Textiles works with loads of fabulous designers who can’t get enough of their lovely lace.

“Judy R Clark, Iona Crawford, Minna Hepburn, Hobbs of London, Crikey Aphrodite, Mairi McDonald and Flossy & Dossy are just some of the names who buy our lace for their fashions and wedding dresses,” says Margo from MYB.

“And William Chambers, who uses our lace, and our roller-blind fabric in his wonderful hats.”

Glasgow-based milliner, Chambers, has used some lovely lace in his SS15 collection, as you can see from our images.
