Embroidery Love

Embroidery is everywhere this season thanks to the huge boho/folk 1970s inspired trend that’s all over the stores.

Boho/folk styles mean lots of embellishments and textures – tassels, crochet, mirrors, leathers, quilting, and that embroidery. From simple, small embroidery patches to full-on embroidered pieces – it’s all good!

Here’s a few of our favourite embroidered pieces around the Ocean Terminal stores just now.

Let’s start with a simple black dress with embroidery, a midi, on the left, from BHS (£25), and a super smock style from French Connection on the right (£150).

A simple Bardot neckline gives this monochrome embroidered dress a modern edge, and less of a traditional boho feel. (£24.99, New Look).

Embroidered dresses can be bold, or simple. The gorgeous floral embroidery on this white French Connection shift dress (£165) is stunning. On the H&M smock dress (£29.99), the embroidery is subtle but striking, giving the dress a true boho feel.

Embroidery works beautifully on simple summer pieces. This cute blue New Look playsuit (£19.99) has simple white embroidery. The black strapless beach dress has cute embroidered flowers, and is perfect beachwear (£34, Floozie by FrostFrench @ Debenhams).

H&M’s longline jacket (£79.99) is super cool, and embroidery at its very best – with beading and mirrors. Beautiful.

A cute pair of shorts are brought to life with a little bit of embroidery – simple red flowers on denim at H&M (£19.99), and lovely vibrant colours on black (£19.99).

Or go one step better with these FAB embroidered dungarees from French Connection (£110). We adore these.

Carry your embroidery on your bag – in a monochrome bucket bag from New Look (£15.99), or a leather satchel style from JOY (£59).

Folk trend Weekly Wishlist

On the back of the 1970s trend that was everywhere last year (and continues into this summer), there’s a bit of a folk trend going on in fashion.

So, channel your inner Joni Mitchell, pick up that acoustic guitar, middle part your hair, and get some folk trend inspiration from this week’s weekly wishlist.

The folk trend is a hard one to actually interpret. It borrows from all sorts of ethnicities and fashion trends. Embroidery, aztec prints, feathers, dream catchers, denim, wedges, kaftans, floaty dresses – it’s all there.

it’s perfect for summer days, brilliant for fetivals, and you can go ‘full folk trend’ or just borrow little bits from it.

A dress is a great place to start. Think smock style, with tassels, emboidered details, and embellishments. Shorts are great for festivals, team them with cute crops tops if you dare, or smock tops, or floaty kaftans or kimono-style jackets. Go big with fringes and feathers. Go for bright, bold, aztec prints, or subtke natural shades. Have fun with this folk trend, it’s really easy to interpret.
