The Great Outdoors Trend

The Great Outdoors trend is one of the best trends of the season. It’s really easy to do, you can adapt it to suit your needs, and it involves, at times, cute animals. What’s not to love?

So, what is this great outdoors trend? No, it’s not a trend based on The Great Outdoors, the 1988 movie starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. But if you haven’t seen that, give it a go – there is plaid (part of this trend) and lots of laughs…

Anyway, back to clothes. The great outdoors trend is simple – but it’s not just for outdoors. We’re not talking fleeces and berghaus here, okay. We’re talking cosy coats, blanket wraps, leather and lumberjack, fur trims, fairytales, wild animals, bold patterns and rich textures. Warmth, yes, but just a nod of the trend works for evening outfits too. How? Trust me…

Team a full midi skirt with an owl print T-shirt, a cosy, yet sophisticated oversized cardigan, and some super on-trend flats, and finish with a ponyskin clutch – and there you go, the great outdoors trend, for an evening out.

AW14 Top Trends

So, we’ve seen a few of the new season collection but what are the AW14 Top Trends? Let’s have a quick run- through of the trends you will want to be wearing this autumn winter.

There are a LOT of trends this year – it is going to be a great autumn winter for fashion. We are already over-excited about our autumn winter wardrobes and we haven’t even been on summer holiday yet!

There is SO much to get excited about – but we need to calm  right down and talk AW14 Top Trends, so you can get excited too.

So, here we go.

Coats are a big trend. Which seems a bit daft – it’s winter, right? Coats are always on trend. Yeah, but not like this. Big, bold, beautiful statement coats. We’re not talking about simple coats here, we’re talking statement pieces. The bigger, the bolder, the better, right? Like H&M’s green bell coat with wool detail (£69.99)

Okay, next up it’s ‘normcore’. Yep, that’s normcore. Which can also be called perfectly boring.Sounds like a rubbish trend right? Well, it’s not that exciting. But it is classy, and beautiful. It means key statement pieces, worn well – suiting, tailoring, simple colour palettes..yeah, you’ve got it. Check out Stella McCartney if you need to know more. Like this lovely H&M grey check skirt suit (skirt, £19.99, jacket, £34.99).

Yep, from normcore to grey. Grey is so dull, right? WRONG! Grey is a good shade when worn well and one of AW14 top trends. Derek Lam and Michael Kors showed its beauty on the catwalks. Mix your textures, layer grey on grey, mix it with metallics. Wear checks – like this absolutely gorgeous Prince of Wales check full skirt from JOY (£55)

Top trends AW14 1

Clockwise, from top left: 60s mod, Grey, Coats, Monochrome, Great Outdoors, Oversize Knits

Great Outdoors

As AW14 top trends go, this is a good one. Think autumnal leaves – those gorgeous colours. Think fairytales, wild animals, plaids, bold patterns, shades of khaki, rich leathers and winter florals, like this gorgeous New Look dress (£19.99). We love this one. Seen on the catwalks of Vivienne Westwood, Tommy Hilfiger and Preen.

Oversize Knits

Again, it’s a bit of an autumn winter obvious, but it’s in the AW14 top trends because big old oversize knitwear is THE knitwear to be seen in this year. Slouchy jumpers your mum will hate, as seen at Jonathan Saunders, Prada and The Row! But they don’t need to be boring. French Connection‘s Velma jumper with pearls (£90) is so cute…and very slouchy

It’s a fashion favourite, because it’s great! Monochrome – the black and white story is a perennial fashion trend. It’s easy and simple to wear, that’s probably why it’s so loved. Celine, DKNY and Louis Vuitton all showed it again for this season. Mix it up  a bit with New Look’s cute fine pleat skirt (£17.99)

60s Mod

This is the big era for this year’s AW14 top trends. Think simple shift dresses, psychedelic prints, simplicity and structure. House of Holland, Louis Vuitton and Valentino loved this one. Simple skirts you can move in, with knee high boots. The 1960s mod era is all over this autumn winter. Cobalt blue shift dress anyone? (£28, BHS)

top trends AW14 2

Clockwise, from left: 30s Sexy, Normcore, Pastels, Glitter

Yes, pastels are making the transition from summer to become one of our AW14 top trends. So, big pastel fluffy coats – that’s the way to g, like this fabulous pastel blue Red Herring @ Debenhams number (£60). Seen on the AW14 catwalks of Christopher Kane and Miu Miu to name a couple.

Glitter will be everywhere this autumn winter. It’s one of the best AW14 top trends. Glittery, glitzy sequinned gorgeousness was seen on the catwalks of Dior, Marc Jacobs, Rochas and Rodarte. Work this trend with this cute little glittery two-piece – shorts and top – from Red Herring @ Debenhams (£32 each)

30s Sexy

Look to the golden age of Hollywood  and the screen stars of the 1930s for this one. Slinky, figure hugging, bias cut dresses. Gorgeous tuxedos, leathers, sumptuous colours, furs and jewels. Lanvin and Prada did this best. How beautiful is this lace overlay dress from New Look (£119.99)

Let’s hear it for the AW14 top trends!
