A-Z Spring Summer Trends

Fashion. It’s great, but it’s a bit confusing at times. Don’t wear bootcut jeans, do wear them. Mini skirt, midi skirt, maxi skirt. Bright colours, pastel shades, monochrome. It’s always changing, and it is hard to keep up. So, we’re being very helpful on this blog and bringing  you the A-Z Spring Summer Trends – in four handy parts!

Part One covers A-G, and then we’ll be back tomorrow with H-M.

A is for Art Attack

A-z Spring trend AAs seen on the catwalks of Celine, Chanel, Jil Sander, Prada and more, fashion is having an art moment this season. Think paintbrush prints like this H&M skirt, Picasso-esque abstract prints, and bold, bright patterns.

B is for Bombers

a-z spring trends BBomber jackets are back. We’ve blogged about them already, they’re so hot this season. Start wearing a padded, classic bomber like this navy one from H&M (£24.99) now, and then choose a lighter fabric and perhaps a patterned bomber when the weather picks up.

C is for City Shorts

A-z trends spring C

Amongst all of the skirts on offer, fashion goes and brings shorts into the mix. Not beach shorts, or festival denim shorts, or short, holiday shorts. Nope, think longer, almost at the knee city shorts like this amazing ombre style pair from Jonathan Saunders Edition for Debenhams (£55). Wear with a sharp jacket and a cool pair of heels for an excellent on-trend office look. C could also be for Culottes – give them a go this season as well.

D is for Denim

A-z spring trends D

Denim is having a moment that isn’t jeans this spring. Denim jackets, pencil skirts like this stonewashed one from New Look (£19.99), gilets, dresses and more are all in our favourite fabric this summer. Embrace the denim!

E is for Embellishment

A-z spring trends E

Who doesn’t love a bit of embellishment? Lucky us this season then, because it is everywhere. On bags, jackets, tops, knits – you name it, it’s been embellished with jewels, sparkles and more. This gorgeous shell top from French Connection (£75) has huge embellishment, the perfect foil for the pastel pink.

F is for Florals

A-z spring trends F

Amanda Priestley would be crying this season with florals just everywhere. But The Devil Wears Prada magazine boss would have to admit that florals for spring, whilst a cliche, are a HUGE trend this year. What more can we say? Small florals, bit floral prints, florals on white, on black, on everything. Just go with it. We love this floral dress from Debut at Debenhams (£100).

G is for Geometric

A-z spring trends GGeometric prints are the perfect alternative to florals – or maybe mixed in with florals. If you want something bold and out there, this trend is for you. Go for bold all over geometric prints in a dress – clash prints, wearing trousers and tops in different patterns. It’s a fun trend, so have fun with it. This fab hexagonal print dress from New Look (£25) rocks this look.

Tomorrow, it’s H-M in the A-Z Spring Summer trends

Accessories, accessories

“You can never have too many accessories’, is the line Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous famously DIDN’T say when she was a guest on a daytime TV show.

She was trying to find the word, but somehow it just wouldn’t come out. How could she forget the word accessories?! Accessories are a fashion essential. They’re an excellent way of adding something to an outfit, dressing it up for the evening, or putting your own personal stamp on it.

They’re an excellent way of trying out one of the season’s fashion trends, without buying into it too much. So, we’ve chosen a selection of accessories from a few of this spring/summer season’s hottest trends.

Prints and patterns are big news this spring/summer. Look out for tribal prints, animal prints, geometric prints, paintbrush prints, tropical prints – yeah, you get the idea. Wearing print on clothing is a bold choice, so if you don’t feel that bold, then try accessories. A print shoe, or bag, or belt, or even jewellery in the style can add something to a plain outfit, or enhance a printed one, if you are bold enough!

Pastels are big this spring, did you know? If the answer is ‘no’, shame on you, get to the bottom of fashion class! Pastels are HUGE this spring/summer, and probably one of the easiest trends to wear. Mix up your pastels by adding contrasting pastel accessories to your outfit, or match them up and go completely pretty in pink (or mint, or lemon, or, yeah, you get the idea!). Pastel hair is huge as well – try hair chalks if you want to, or how about this fab wig from Claire’s!?

Metallics for the spring/summer is a bold look. Shiny fabrics are all over the shops, silver during the day in the sunshine is in. So mix up your metallics and add some accessories that shine. Holographic prints are good, as are metallics in bright colours.

It’s spring, it’s time for florals. Florals, as we have discussed on the blog, are here for the duration this spring/summer. They are everywhere. But if you aren’t quite ready for a floral dress, or coat, or skirt and top combo, floral accessories are a perfect way to bring some flowers into your day! (Especially when it still feels like winter outside!)

Bright and bold colour mixing, or colour blocking, is a trend again this year, but on a smaller scale than previous years. But there is something brilliant about adding some bold colour to an outfit, by way of accessories. Bright primary coloured shoes, a bright yellow bag, or a bold pink bangle are all a perfect way to bring a pop of colour to your outfit, and your life!
