Fashion is having a trouser moment. There’s a trouser trend happening unlike anything seen since around the late 90s! Ditch the skirts, throw away the jeans, and embrace the trouser trend!
All sorts of different shapes and styles of trousers are appearing – the like we haven’t seen for years, well not all at once, anyway!
Wide-legged, palazzo, flared, sporty, cropped, high-waisted – you name it, there’s a trouser like it!
If, like most of us, you’ve been stuck in skinny jeans for years, and maybe just some black trousers to work, then this trouser trend will be difficult to navigate. But it’s really not that hard. We’ve had a wee look at the type of trousers out there, chosen a few of our favourites, and we’re sharing them with you!
Let;s start with wide, and short – culottes, and the like. Some of these are full-on wide culotte style, others more cropped pants. Wear them boldly, with matching tops, like these wool blend cropped wide trousers (£29.99) and matching tunic top (£34.99) from H&M. Also at H&M, beautiful dusky pink silk-look trousers (£39.99) look great with a simple white blouse. Black culottes from Principles by Ben De Lisi @ Debenhams (£38) make a great skirt workwear alternative. And RJR John Rocha @ Debenhams black and white patterned culottes (£35) are a bold statement.
Again at H&M, matching is the name of the day with relaxed suiting styles – we love this grey jersey v-neck tunic (£29.99) and matching high waisted boot cut bottom trousers (£29.99). And the contrasting monochrome top (£15) and flared trousers (£34.99) are bold and brilliant.
H&M’s wide cream sheer satin trousers (£14.99) are perfect for summer, and New Look’s maxi trousers in a floral print (£19.99) are a great maxi-skirt or dress alternative.
This trouser trend sees ‘soft’ trousers being worn as evening wear. By that we mean tailored shapes in sweatshirt fabric, like H&M’s grey ‘sweat slacks’ (£19.99) and Louche @ JOY’s slouchy cream and black pants (£20). GAP has briliant black scuba sweats (£39.95) and patchwork denim trousers (£39.95) that would look great with Cons, or heels.
French Connection also buys into this trouser trend with its green, white and navy trews (£85). New Look’s high-waisted pin-stripes (£22.99) are cropped, and great for a summer office alternative. As are their bold floral print trousers (£17.99), if you can get away with them.
GAP’s pale green paperbag waist cotton trousers (£39.95) are a statement pair, and can be worn rolled up or not, with heels or flats.
Whatever your trousers this spring summer, make sure you take part in this trouser trend! Maybe Red Herring @ Debenhams white wide culottes (£32) are your style? Or you might want to limit your wide-legged trousers to your holidays? J by Jasper Conran’s bold green and white leaf print pair (£38) will make a statement wherever you are, as will RJR John Rocha’s abstract olive green and white print wide-legged trousers (£42), both @ Debenhams.
Finally, Dorothy Perkins @ BHS offers us floral jogger style trousers (£24), worn with heels. We love it! Embrace the trouser trend!
