Britain’s favourite period drama returns this Sunday, so it’s time for some Downton Abbey style to get you in the mood. Have a little look at this trailer first.
Sunday nights are much better spent in the company of Lady Mary, The Dowager and co, don’t you agree? Never mind the drama, the clothes are beautiful. This series is set in 1922, six months after the tragic death of Matthew Crawley. Lady Mary is still in mourning, so expect a lot of black. But Lady Edith is enjoying the new-found freedoms the ‘Roaring Twenties’ brought – so expect shorter hemlines, more flapper styles, and less, well, stiffness.
Getting the Downton Abbey style is easier than you may think. Think sequins and beading, dresses that move with you, slinky evening gowns, elegant clutch bags, Art Deco shapes and patterns, and statement jewellery, with geometric lines.
Get the Lady Mary mourning look with black – layer textures and fabrics for a modern take – and add a splash of gold so it’s not too funereal!
