The Perfect Festive Wardrobe

Christmas – the most wonderful time of year – and that should be for your festive wardrobe as well. Let’s face it, when else do we get to dress up for at least three consecutive days?

But what should you wear on the big occasions – Christmas Eve party, Christmas Day feast, and Boxing Day with the family?

CHRISTMAS EVE

Bring out the glitter and the bling! It’s Christmas Eve, so you can afford to push the fashion boat out a bit with a bold party dress, sparkly heels, lots of accessories and glitter, lace and sequins galore.

Look for classic little black dresses with a twist – mesh details, lace trims, that kind of thing. Something that makes them stand out from that plain shift. Try gorgeous crushed velvet for a traditionally festive wardrobe look, or go for something a bit more out there like a brightly coloured jumpsuit. It’s party time.

DON’T wear jeans and a top – make an effort!

DO make sure you try before you buy, and that means ordering well in advance if you’re shopping online

CHRISTMAS DAY

It can be hard to get your outfit right for Christmas Day, especially if you are hosting. Comfort is key, but it’s Christmas so you want to get glammed up a little bit. Make sure your festive wardrobe has a maxi dress in it – perfect for style and comfort. They hide a multitude of sins, including an expanding stomach on Christmas Day!

And, you can even hide your slippers under them! If you want some height, go for it. Try a bold red heel for Christmas, but have something a little lower in reserve! Go for something that you can fling a pretty cardigan over if you get cold. Don’t wear fabric that will get you hot and bothered in the kitchen. If dresses aren’t your thing, big wide palazzo pants and a top look great. A classic lace LBD will make you the most glamorous host.

DON’T wear anything too tight. And pyjamas will just not cut it, even if it’s just the two of you!

DO make sure whatever your choose has the comfort factor as well as glamour.

BOXING DAY

If you’re venturing out to visit the relatives, you’ll want to be comfortable, but stylish, and it’s definitely the day for Christmas jumpers. Make sure you layer up though – who know how hot or cold Auntie Jean’s house might be?!

Try to avoid your every day jeans in this festive wardrobe rummage, go for something with a bit of sparkle, or sequins, or in a bold colour. Get the Christmas jumper out again; you won’t have many more chances to wear it this year! Wear comfortable shoes – after two days of partying and eating you’ll need them!

DON’T get too dressed up – this is a day to relax a bit

DO have a bit of fun with your colours and jumper choices!
