There are some things that are fashion perennials. Year after year they appear, in some shape or form, on the catwalks, or in the shopping mall stores. Spots and stripes are two of those.
But spots or stripes? Which are you? do you like the fun, retro pop of polka dots, or do your prefer the boldness of stripes? We can never decide. We like to be really bold and wear them together. But we know that’s not for everyone. We know for some it’s spots or stripes, and that’s fine.
If you’re in the spots corner, you probably love retro styles, pretty dresses, and bold colours. We love a polka dot dress. White Stuff’s green shift is bright and bold (£59.95), and Maine @ Debenhams’ navy polka dot midi (£40) has bigger, bolder dots. We adore JOY’s simple denim blue small dotty sundress (£40). An itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini sound familiar?! We love Floozie by FrostFrench’s retro version (top, £26.50, bottoms, £15, Debenhams) A simple polka dot Tee is a summer staple – this navy one is from French Connection (£36). And how about these Adidas Stan Smiths from Schuh, even better reduced from £67 to £44.99.
Spots or stripes – maybe stripes are your favourite. We love a good stripe. They’re chic, classy, easy and striking. Stripes work brilliantly in simple items, or whole outfits. New Look’s striped midi skirt (£19.99) and matching crop top (£14.99) is a fantastic, bold outfit for a big night out. JOY’s full midi in multi-stripe chambray is a great daytime stripe (£45).
New Look’s stripy playsuit in bold colours is a fun fashion piece for summer (£19.99). JOY’s striped sweat (£32) is casual perfection. And if you like muted stripes, then H&M’s shopper (£24.99) or Schuh’s flat shoes (£28) are for you. And for the beach, J by Jasper Conran’s striped bikini (top, £28, bottoms £18, Debenhams) will get you noticed.
So, spots or stripes? Which are you?
