Ooh, the nation finds out who killed Lucy Beale this evening, as the EastEnders 30th anniversary live week continues this evening. Now, EastEnders – and most soaps for that matter- are not normally where you might look for style icons. (The red carpet at the soap awards is not normally a trend-led place).
But if you think there are no soap style icons on Albert Square in Walford, you are wrong! EastEnders has two of the biggest soap style icons of them all. Step forward Dot Cotton and Pat Butcher.
Yep, you read that right – soap style icons Dot Cotton and Pat Butcher. We have long been admirers of Dot Cotton’s sort of vintage/charityshop/theQueen style. Those coats and handbags are legendary.
Dot’s style is simple, and easy to imitate and develop. Don’t worry, you won’t go out looking like an old lady! An a-line midi skirt, and a pussybow blouse later, and you will have Dot’s classic, vintage style that makes her one of our favourite soap style icons. Dot loves a cardigan, red polished nails, and a few bits of jewellery here and there. But we don’t recommend a cigarette with every outfit!
Dot style, clockwise, from top left: Fur collar coat, £89 (was £195), French Connection, mink pussybow blouse, £20, BHS, patterned pussybow blouse, £19 (was £39), JOY, classic Mac, £49.99, H&M, navy skirt, £45, JOY, blue bag, £15.99, New Look, green cardigan, £9.99, black bag, £19.99, floral blouse, £29.99, all H&M, green skirt, £35, BHS, beads, £18, J by Jasper Conran @ Debenhams
And so, to the second of our EastEnders soap style icons – the dearly departed Pat Butcher and those earrings! Actress Pam St Clements, who played brassy Pat for 26 years, has called her recently released autobiography, The End of an Earring.
Grab one of soaps style icons’ style with some HUGE earrings of your own!
