Summer shorts

Summer shorts. Summer and shorts. They just go together don’t they, like strawberries and cream, Kim and Kanye, coconut and lime, eggs and avocado…okay, you get our drift!

Summer shorts – you need them in your life/wardrobe/suitcase!

We’re focusing on short summer shorts – the only type you need on holiday, and be brave and wear them at home too. Show off your legs, get some sun about you, and embrace summer shorts fully!

Let’s start with some patterned shorts – add a bit of print to your summer shorts for some holiday fun.

Pretty sequinned geo print shorts from Dorothy Perkins @ BHS (£40) are super chic for summer evenings. H&M’s white lace shorts (£14.99) are summery, and subtle. Their red tie-front floral print pair are super-cute (£12.99). At White Stuff, the pretty print on grey is summery subtle (£35). At Debenhams, choose flouncy beach shorts in a pink neon flower print from Floozie by FrostFrench (£25), or floral multi-coloured chevron stripes by Red Herring (£26). We love these shorts!

If plain suits you better than patterned, that’s fine. Choose from denim, chino style, or floaty fabric, and with trims or without. New Look’s denim embroidered high waist shorts (£22.99) are festival perfect, as are JOY’s denim Urban Bliss pom-pom detail pair (£25). At White Stuff choose yellow linen (£35) or khaki chino style with polka turn-ups (£29.95).

Floaty khaki drawstring shorts from JOY (£32, Valley of the Dolls) are super chic for day or night. As are New Look’s black embroidered pair (£17.99).

Blue is an on-trend summer shade this summer, and there are loads of cute blue summer shirts to choose from.

Denim high-waisted at H&M look fantastic paired with a black blouse, and this acid wash style are super-chic (£12.99). Red Herring @ Debenhams’ denim ombre and ripped style are also fab (£30), and White Stuff’s denim with turn-ups have a more traditional feel to them (£35). H&M’s elastic waist broderie anglaise scallop hem shorts are on our holiday wishlist (£14.99), as are their blue floaty stripe style (£12.99). And we do love the Reger by Janet Reger @ Debenhams navy lace pair (£25).

Finally, stripes. Who doesn’t love stripes, and they look great on shorts. Horizontal stripes navy, mustard and muted rust (£19.99, H&M) are a great evening pair for your holiday – just add a slinky vest and killer heels. Crochet shorts from New Look (£12.99) in a pretty two-tone fiery orange shade are festival-ready. New Look’s cream striped loose shorts with tassel tie are an easy summer style (£14.99), and their belted grey stripes are slightly more formal (£14.99). Their pink, black and white striped pair (£14.99) are slightly longer and would suit a wedge. Team with a jacket and a simple top for an alternative wedding look.

Festival fashion favourites

T in the Park is upon us for another year. Glastonbury has been and gone, but Scotland’s biggest festival is still to come, and the question that’s always there is on our lips again – what will our festival fashion favourites be?

It’s easy to fall into that festival fashion favourites uniform of short shorts, top, hat, various bits of jewellery and obligatory wellies. And to be honest, we say ‘why not?’. If there’s one place you can get away with short shorts and wellies it’s a festival field!

Mix it up a little bit with white shorts, add a bright top, a long-line sleeveless cardigan gives 1970s festival style vibe, and a 1970s inspired cheesecloth peasant top will protect you from the sun, should it come out! Or go bright and bold with floral prints, culottes, and matching tops and bottoms! Some of our top festival fashion favourites!

Accessories are another festival fashion favourites. Pick up bits and bobs as you go, but start with a few basics. Long beaded necklaces, bright and bold sunglasses, fringing, a hat of course, and pay homage to the original festival vibe of peace and love with some peace sign stud earrings!

Festival fashion favourites for your feet?! Wellies!! Those toilets, the fields, the mess – urgh, we don’t want our feet touching any of it! But wellies are so boring, right? Er, wrong. Try prints or details like fringes. Ankle boots will also work. Fringes are everywhere this season, so embrace them on bags in particular. Glam up a backpack by choosing a sequin version. Or go for this season’s musthave bucket bag in an Aztec print. Perfect festival fashion favourites.

It doesn’t have to be shorts and a top for festivals – a playsuit is the perfect alternative. But a loose, pretty dress wins every  time for us, hands down. A festival dress is one of our musthave festival fashion favourites. Choose from a feminine lacy style, to a more pared-down T-shirt style in a block colour or monochrome stripes.
