Festive colours

What colours come to mind when you think of Christmas? Red, green, and gold are the festive colours for me. So, it’s nice to be a bit festive and wear them at this time of year. Just maybe not all at the same time. Red and green can look stylish together, but at Christmas, you may end up looking like an elf. Which is not a good look. But mix red with gold, or green with gold, and you’re good to go.

Gold is the most festive of the festive colours – and the most wearable at this time of year. From gold dresses, to gold shoes and bags, gold jewellery, and gold detail in trousers, jackets and skirts, Christmas is one time you can ramp up the bling, and dress head to toe in gold if you want.

Green doesn’t have to be ‘Christmas green’. This is the most adaptable of the festive colours – think all shades of green, from olive, to emerald, to bottle, to racing. A deep bottle green dress is probably one of the classiest items you could ever own. Green works brilliantly in velvet. But it can also look bright and fun in a Christmas sweater, or a bold emerald bag.

Red – the colour of Santa and the most recognisable of the festive colours. Head to toe in red can be a wee bit much, but if you’re daring enough, do! A classic red dress is perfect for Christmas. If that’s too much, a red top, a red bag, or some bold red shoes will work just as well.
