Get with the cape trend

There’s a bit of a cape trend this year, on the back of the 1970s trend which has been everywhere this season (although we have yet to see full 1970s style out and about on the streets, but such is the way of fashion, right?!).

So, the cape trend. Capes are gorgeous items of clothing. We embrace this cape trend, but we also know it’s quite a tough one to wear. So, here are four capes, four ways to wear them, and that means four times you’ll be rocking this cape trend.

Let’s start with a city weekend – shopping, lunch with the girls, visiting friends. Here’s the perfect cape, and how to wear it. Team your neutral cape with on-trend flared jeans, a bright bold knit, a floppy 1970s fedora, and some snakeskin boots – another big trend this season.

Swap that boring work coat for the cape trend. French Connection’s longline winter cape is fantastic. Team it with an updated work look – culottes, a high neck blouse and some patent boots.

Cosy up the cape trend this winter walk with a fur-trimmed cape, a polo neck and a cute pom pom hat or earmuffs. Add a tube scarf for extra warmth.

Cape or wrap?

Okay, we’ve needed neither in the last few weeks thanks to the unseasonally great weather, but we all know that it’ll be time for a cape or wrap pretty soon.

There are actually a few different types of transitional cover-ups to choose from this year, thanks to the 1970s vibe everywhere. Maxi cardigans are also fab, but for now are you cape or wrap?

Cape or wrap – the difference is minimal really. Capes are perhaps a bit more structured; whereas you can just fling on a wrap, you have to get into a cape, really.

We absolutely adore French Connection’s classic black wool cape (£210)- the perfect winter coat alternative.
