Halloween Style… Stylishly

It’s Halloween next weekend, and that means sorting out your Halloween style. But don’t worry, we’re not about to guide you to the fancy dress costume shop.

No, we’re talking about doing Halloween style, well, stylishly. Think black. Think maxi dresses. Think lace, sequins, glitter, and a few little Halloween nods thrown in. Pop on a witches hat, or some cat ears, and you’re good to go.

For true Halloween style, it has to be black. So embrace everyone’s favourite shade whilst you can! Start with a maxi dress if you have to dress up. Teamed with a cape and a witches hat, and you have a costume – but your way.

Black is the new black!

Do you remember when brown was the new black? Or was it grey? Or a berry shade? The list goes on. But they are all imposters when it comes down to it, and this autumn winter, black is the new black.

Black is very much back – perfect for winter, everyone’s favourite colour!  But don’t just throw on any old black – think about how to wear it, how to get the most out of it, and how to layer it. We’re talking full on black, from head to toe – from dress, to coat, to shoes and bag; if black is the new black, then it’s only right you do it properly!

The best place to start with black is not the shade, but the texture. Mix textures. Wear black leather with wool, look for fabrics with jacquard prints, raised textures in them, and mix them up for a rich, black look.

An LBD is an essential in every woman’s wardrobe, but this season, think about the texture -chiffon, lace, printed fabrics – and don’t accessorise with colour. Wear black jewels, black shoes, black coat, and a black bag for the full black is the new black look!

If you have to add anything else to your black colour palette, make it gold or silver – a little metallic accent here and there gives black another edge.

If black really scares you, drop down a shade to a charcoal, but mix it up with deepest black. A black skirt, black sweater, black boots, and a black jacket is a serious outfit. Keep it form looking too funereal with detailing – a peplum hem on the sweater, a full skirt, with a pattern in the fabric, faux fur on the coat.

Keep black fun with a playsuit, tanned legs and a pair of heels. Rich black velvet is a great winter fabric – mix it up with a smart black peacoat over a black taoilred suit, and carry a big black bag to finish off any black outfit!
