Mad Men Style!

Who watched the first episode of the last series of Mad Men last night? We love that show, but more than the plots, we love the Mad Men style! The clothes, the houses, it’s all retro-fabulous.

mad men seaason sevenSince the first series we have moved from 1960, and have now reached 1969. This season sees the Mad Men style being to change significantly, with the dawning of the 1970s and a new era.

Each of our main female characters – Joan, Betty, Peggy and Megan, have a Mad Men style of their own. Here’s how to get a bit of that Mad Men style, whichever character you love the most.

Gorgeous, curvaceous Joan has gone from office manager to company partner in her nine years with the ad agency that is now Sterling Cooper and Pryce. Joan still favours the more fitted, ‘wiggle dress’ styles of the late 1950s, showing off her ample curves. To get Joan’s Mad Men style think bold colours, court shoes, prints from time to time and structured bags.

Peggy has also climbed the career ladder from Don Draper’s secretary, to, well, doing Don’s job. She’s now Chief of copy and is finding it tough at the top. Peggy’s Mad Men style has always been demure, understated, in shape and cut, but she has no problem embracing the bold, bright colours that epitomised the 1960s, and we’re sure this season’s wardrobe will be equally as bright for Peggy, interspersed with some monochrome, of course.

Don’s first wife Betty is no longer midnight-snacking out of the fridge! The weight is off and this season Betty will, we think, embrace the bold prints and colours the late 60s early 70s had to offer. She has a teenage daughter to keep up with aswell, remember… But Betty still loves her simple, more structured 1950s Mad Men style, and accessories.

The youngest, and the most forward thinking fashion-wise, Don Draper’s actress wife is the character to watch, fashion-wise. She’s going to push the boat out with mini dresses, bold patterns, bold accessories, and an excellent interpretation of this era’s style. Get Megan’s Mad Men style with mini skirts, bold florals, big accessories and a whole lot of courage!
