Bardot Dress – Three Ways

One of this season’s most enduring and popular trends has been the Bardot neckline. Cool, chic, easy to wear, sophisticated and casual, it’s easy to see why it’s been so popular.

The Bardot dress is a simple way to wear this trend well, and the beauty of it is it can be worn in many different ways.  We’re taking at look at the Bardot dress three ways.

We’ve styled this simple black Bardot dress from New Look (£24.99) in three very different ways. Which will you choose?

First up, a sort of hippy/. festival style. Take your Bardot dress in simple black and add some ethnic/rustic/aztec accessories. Pom pom sandals are on trend this season. Choose this pair from Schuh (£24.99, were £35), currently in the sale, as an on-trend bargain.

Add a fun feather headdress for a completely free look – this one is from New Look (£7.99). Simple round sunglasses work best with this look, these are from H&M for £7.99). Finally, an aztec print embellished cross-body bag from New Look (£22.99) completes the look

If a biker/rock chick style is more up your street, keep it all back with your Bardot dress, and add chunky accessories. A pair of Dr Marten’s start the look (£105, Schuh). Add cat’s eye sunglasses (£79, French Connection), and sling a fringed rucksack over your shoulder. We love this one from Faith @ Debenhams (£45).

Finally, slip on a biker jacket, and if you can’t stretch to leather, go or denim, or fake it with this one from H&M (£29.99).

if you fancy something more sophisticated, then introduce some movie star style to your Bardot dress. We love a bit of fashion theatre, so go for it, with a big bold floppy sunhat (£9.99, H&M), and bold white sunglasses (£16, Floozie by Frost French @ Debenhams).

Add a bit of animal print -a classic Hollywood favourite – in the shape of a clutch bag (£15, Star by Julien Macdonald @ Debenhams), and then clash your prints with these amazing aztec print heels (£tbc, Debenhams).

Which way will you wear your Bardot dress?

Bardot Style

Have you noticed it’s all about shoulders this season? You better get yours prepped and ready to bare this spring/summer, because off the shoulder, cold shoulder and one shoulder styles are everywhere.

Our favourite – the Bardot style. Named after iconic French actress Brigitte Bardot, because she loved this style, the simple off-the-shoulder look looks best in a plain, black top, teamed with a skirt, or capri pants, perhaps a headscarf, and some big sunnies, mimicking Brigitte’s laidback French Riviera style.

This top from Louche @ JOY  (£14) is perfect.

BUT…there’s more to Bardot style this season than just a simple black top. We love bright, bold colours for spring.

We love patterns and pastels, and everything in-between. Florals, tile prints, aztec prints, stripes – the list is endless!

The great thing about a Bardot style top is that it’s so versatile. Team it with a pencil skirt, a full midi skirt, capri pants, jeans – anything at all!

Pencil and full skirts and capri pants give you that retro feel. Jeans give your top a more casual, laid-back look.

Bardot style dresses are easy spring/summer wear, and can be formal, or not so formal. Debut @ Debenhams‘ monochrome dress is classic Bardot style (£110). New Look’s stripes (£14.99) are a more modern, laid-back take, and H&M’s bright red skater Bardot style number (£29.99) is a statement piece.

The perfect Bardot style dress must be a floral one – team with wedges, big sunnies and a straw bag. Perfection.

Maybe a Bardot style neckline on a jumpsuit works for you (£39.99, H&M)? Or a simple plain navy dress – we are in love with this one from H&M (£29.99). And this bold tunic dress with a floppy Bardot style neckline is a great holiday buy (£17.99, New Look).
