It’s a Bank Holiday weekend this weekend, and it got me wondering what everyone was up to? And what Bank Holiday fashion they might need. A quick straw poll on my Facebook provided me with some bizarre and very different Bank Holiday activities – sleeping, visiting a Donkey Sanctuary, running the Edinburgh half marathon, a yoga weekend, and attending the Mhor Festival, were just some of my Facebook friend’s answers!
So, I then thought, what might folk do – on a more generic basis – on a Bank Holiday weekend? Have a picnic in the park, visit the beach, take a mini break in a city, or go clubbing?
Well, here’s our style guide to what to wear if those four are any of the Bank Holiday activities you have planned this weekend! Bank holiday fashion for every occasion – well, four of them anyway!
AT THE BEACH
Okay, so it might be Porty or Yellowcraigs, not Marbella or St Tropez, but if the weather’s good, why not glam it up at the beach?! There’s no excuse for poor beachwear, even in Scotland! Glam it up with an animal print theme – tiger swimsuit and leopard print beach dress – go on!
Clockwise, from top left: Tiger swimsuit, £19.99, H&M, gold glittery jelly sandals, £18, Schuh, beach dress, £29.99, H&M, sunglasses, £15, JOY, espadrille sandals, £15, BHS, black bikini top, £6.99, bottoms, £7,99, New Look, red bag, £9.50, BHS
PICNIC IN THE PARK
Off to the Meadows, Leith Links, or perhaps the Botanics for a picnic, get in a sort of festival-ish vibe with your bank holiday fashion. Denim shorts, a vest, a jacket for when it gets cooler, oh and a hat. You know the style!
Clockwise, from top left: Sandals, £19.99, denim shorts, £19.99, both New Look, Epic Weekend Tee, £5.49, H&M, bucket bag, £45, JOY, print sneakers, £35, Red Herring @ Debenhams, quilted hippy style jacket, £24.99, yellow trim hat, £4.99, both New Look
BANK HOLIDAY CLUBBING
Who remembers the days of big bank holiday weekenders? Do they still exist? If you’re clubbing this weekend, or just out for a night on the town, the glam it up – it’s a bank holiday! Think summer metallics or bright colourful neons for a bold look!
CITY MINI BREAK
Bridget Jones wanted to spend every bank holiday on a mini-break with her boyfriend. Essentially, that’s why she wanted a boyfriend. But you can mini-break with whoever you want, surely!? If you’re heading off to a city for a mini-break, here’s a capsule wardrobe for perfect bank holiday fashion.
