The khaki trend

Its like we’re back in the boomtime 1990s; the Britpop era, and we’re all wearing camo gear a la Oasis, and All Saints. Yes, there’s a khaki trend happening again!

Do you remember when khaki crops were the trouser of choice? Or did you favour cargo pants? Well, you’ll be glad to hear that in the khaki trend 2016 there are no crops or cargo pants, but the colour is one to embrace once again – and this time on, well, everything.

Khaki is a strange one – there are so many variations of the shade on the high street, we’re not entirely sure what the real shade of khaki green is. Mix and match them to really work this khaki trend, or go simple, and just add a jacket, or a sweater to your wardrobe. Think further ahead as well – this khaki trend will go right through to the autumn/winter, trust us.

But let’s concentrate on summer, and start on holiday, because that’s all that’s on our minds right now, let’s face it, and we’ll begin with New Look’s fabulous fringed bikini (top £14.99, bottoms, £7.99). BHS’s tummy control swimsuit (£22) is a block of khaki. Cover up in a utilitarian style with BHS’s cover-up shirt (£20). Add a peak cap (£7.99, New Look) for fun – and to keep the sun off. Keep your hair under control with a scrunchie (£3 for two, Claire’s). Finally, khaki lace-up espadrilles (£19.99, H&M), or flatbed sandals (£35, Schuh) – your decide!

Khaki works brilliantly as a very smart alternative to black, navy, or grey. Spice up your work style with some khaki trend separates. Superdry’s slouchy yet sophisticated collarless bomber jacket (£64.99) is a great buy this summer. Culottes are on-trend, so make sure you’re doubly on-trend by getting them in khaki (£37, were £75, French Connection). Culottes look great with a body (£14.99, New Look) or a cold-shoulder top (£15, BHS). Add killer heels, like these fab rope-twisted sandals (£40, Missguided @ Schuh). Oh, and a big bag (£23, BHS) to complete your look.

Team with a flouncy playsuit (£14.99, H&M), or some short dungarees (£24.99, New Look) to show off those legs, a great utility dress from White Stuff (£tbc) for inbetween, or a jersey maxi (£14.99, H&M) to keep your legs under wraps

If yu just want to dip your toe in the khaki trend, then think about a jacket, or a piece of knitwear. New Look’s frilled sweater is vintage-style heaven (£24.99, New Look). We love the bold geo print of this khaki jumper dress (£38, Wallis @ BHS). Jacket-wise, BHS’s suede zip jacket (£120) is an investment. But if it’s 90s-style camo jackets you are after then there’s this floral embroidered version from New Look (£39.99), or plain from Debenhams (£65).

GAP’s gilet (£49.95) is a classic take on the safari style, and this lighter shade is, according to GAP, iconic khaki. Their classic girlfriend chinos come in this shade, but we also love this deeper olive green (£29.99). Valley of the Dolls’  double split front floaty maxi skirt is super cool for summer (£45, JOY). Team it with New Look’s lattice front bodysuit (£17.99). A Bardot style off the shoulder top is a musthave this summer, as we have discussed, so why not make it khaki and get the khaki trend covered too? This one is from Wallis @ BHS (£28). Finally, BHS’s lace-up sandals (£26) complete any khaki trend look.
