Mardi Gras and Carnival Style

This weekend sees the annual Mardi Gras and Carnival parade in Edinburgh, part of the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival. The parade is a riot of colour, full of bold and bright costumes, and, hopefully, the sun will shine.

No matter the weather, then grab some of your own carnival style by embracing bold and bright jewel colours. Think pinks, magenta, jade green, deep blue, turquoises, greens and yellow – with hot orange thrown in for good luck!

Let’s start that carnival style with a gorgeous maxi dress in a jewel-bright colour. Or maybe a bright animal print jumpsuit – we LOVE this jumpsuit from French Connection.

We’ve featured it on this blog before, and the great news now is that it’s IN THE SALE! Grab it now for £50, down from £125. Bargain carnival style.

Another sale bargain at FC is this lovely carnival maxi in a beautiful turquoise (£43, was £85). H&M’s new-in green glittery kaftan-style maxi (£39.99) is carnival style perfection. Bold blue is a great statement of colour – mix  Louche @ JOY’s maxi (£65 ) with pink and yellow accessories. Or New Look’s lime heels (£22.99). Finally, more hot orange in the shape of a Butterfly by Matthew Williamson maxi (£40, was £80) at Debenhams, and a lovely bag (£28, was £35) by Star by Julien Macdonald @ Debenhams.

Mardi Gras style maxi styleMaybe something shorter is more your carnival style? Show those pins off, and get dancing in a gorgeous pink skater dress from Red Herring @ Debenhams (£32), or a beautiful crochet detail orange dress from Louche @ JOY (£49).

Maybe bright green is your carnival style – show off your curves in this brilliantly bright green ribbed dress at H&M (£24.99). Or go for a floaty, pleated turquoise number from French Connection (£32, was £45). There’s that bright blue again, this time in a pretty one-shoulder Red Herring Instaglam number (£45, Debenhams).

H&M’s sea greens and gold bracelets (£3.99 for four) are a perfect match. Oh, and lime/yellow sandals (£27.30, were £39, J by Jasper Conran @ Debenhams to complete that carnival style!

Mardi Gras style dressesMix it up with bright carnival style separates. Turquoise sandals (£9, were £19.99, New Look), with a bold yellow top (£30, French Connection), bright blue trousers (£13.50, were £45, J by Jasper Conran @ Debenhams), and a bold orange jacket (£30, Evans @ BHS).

Too much? Never! Add some rainbow beads (£5, Claire’s Accessories), maybe some silver shoes (£19.99, New Look) – metallics for carnival style work brilliantly!

Oh yeah, and a cocktail shaped clutch (£20, Floozie by FrostFrench @ Debenhams) – until you get the real thing, of course!

Marid Gras style seperatesA hot orange jersey playsuit (£12.99, H&M), teamed with a multi-coloured woven necklace (£20, JOY), a gold leather bag (£60, JOY) and a pair of magenta platforms (£39.99, were £80, Red or Dead @ Schuh) is, in our opinion, perfect summer carnival style!

Maybe you prefer a fluted hem skirt in bright orange (£28, was £70, French Connection) and a yellow floral detail top (£12, was £40, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson @ Debenhams). And a cutesy floral necklace (£8, JOY) to complete the look!
