Limited Edition News

Behind every good store, there’s a great manager. Or something like that!

When Scotland Re:Designed and Ocean Terminal collaborated on the Limited Edition pop-up that opened in the centre last weekend (what do you mean, you haven’t been in yet!?), it was clear from the off that this pop-up was different.

Firstly, it’s there for a whopping three months! You can shop the 21 Scottish designers until the end of January next year.

Secondly, they wanted someone to run the whole thing from the floor – pull the store together, and provide excellent and knowledgeable customer service.

And they found Bryony, pictured above. Bryony Strange has a background in retail and fashion design. She’s recently graduated in fashion design from Edinburgh College of Art, and would love to start her own label in a few years.

Scotland Re:Designed did a lovely Q&A interview with Bryony; read it below.

TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE. WHAT KIND OF PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN?

Alongside working in retail I am also a designer, illustrator and dressmaker and recently graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Fashion Design. My most recent collection was inspired by the works of Gabriel Orozco and the visual aesthetics within constellation maps and Astrophotography.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION?

Every day holds a new challenge and allows me to work with like-minded individuals that share my interest with fashion and design.

WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS?

I am keen to continue my work within design and potentially start up my own label in a few years time.

FAVOURITE SCOTTISH DESIGNERS, OR BRANDS?

Pringle of Scotland, they’ve perfected the balance between heritage and modernity and I love that they still support Scottish manufacture. Their SS15 collection was fab.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?

Take my boyfriend’s dogs off for a walk up around the Pentlands or to Cramond. I’m a country girl at heart.

WHO ARE YOUR HEROES?

A cliché I know but I’d have to say my mum. I wouldn’t have got into fashion if it wasn’t for her influence and encouragement. She owned a few small boutiques when I was a child and would take me to the wholesale fashion shows and as I grew older I’d assist in buying and merchandising the stores, it was such fun!

IF YOU COULD HAVE EXISTED IN ANY TIME, WHEN AND WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE LIVED AND WHY?

1920’s Paris, the flapper style. the jazz, and the Parisian chic lifestyle-what’s not to love!?

GUILTY PLEASURE?

RuPaul’s Drag Race on Netflix.

Look out for Bryony when you go into the Limited Edition store and say hi!

Designers will have their own representatives in store, and the store will be supported by Napier University students who will work at Limited Edition to learn more about retail, event management, merchandising and design. And look out for Scotland Re:Designed’s Diarmid McKinnon who is working as Assistant Store Manager at the pop-up.

Keep an eye on the blog for news of all sorts of shopping opportunities and experiences that the store will be offering. There will be in-store meet and greets with the designers and brands, presentations, and mini events including a live photoshoot, mini fashion shows, and expert Christmas buying guides and styling tips.
