That 70s Trend…

There’s always a favourite decade every season in fashion and this season it’s the 1970s. We’re not talking afro wigs and comedy flares, though. More of a nod to Ali McGraw in 1970s classic weepy, Love Story. Think tans, flared jeans, huge sunglasses, floppy hats and floaty tops.

The 70s trend is really easy to wear, and to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe – work and play.

For 70s style that doesn’t scream costume, keep it simple. Tan works brilliantly as a colour in the 70s trend. Add a bright coral pop here and there, and some fringing, and you’ve transformed a simple pair of jeans and roll-neck.

A great way to work the 70s trend without wearing flares is to wear an A-line midi skirt. Choose a grey skirt, and add colour with a cropped jacket, bold sunnies, a floppy hat and a satchel.

Layering is key in the 70s trend. Keep things loose on top to balance out the flares in your jeans. Layer a blanket wrap over a jersey top for an easy, comfy, stylish look.

You can work the 70s trend at work if you’re clever. Look out for culottes this season – they are everywhere. In black, they’re a great work alternative to a skirt. Team with a floaty smock top style blouse, a bucket bag and some chunky sandals for a 70s trend work look.
